This is the first post on my new blog. I’m just getting this new blog going, so stay tuned for more. Subscribe below to get notified when I post new updates.
Whether written, broadcast, or spoken—that reaches a large audience. This includes television, radio, advertising, movies, the Internet, newspapers, magazines.
- I am choosing to talk about is Mass Media. This is a related issue because, most of us if not all have brought a bootleg cassette, cd, dvd or downloaded something from the internet one time or another. I hope to discover the copyright laws when it comes to streaming music. Two primary types of online music streaming services exist: noninteractive and interactive. I was unaware the types before I read this article about Pandora.
- I thought was interesting explaining how services such as Pandora is does not allow an exact song to be played-that is none as an “noninteractive streaming” and interactive streaming are things like Tidal, and Apple music. The next thing I’ve found interesting was the digital music licensing according to Jack Denton https://psmag.com/news/music-copyright-law-is-finally-out-of-the-analog-age The biggest change with the new law is the creation of blanket licensing for digital music.
- The Copyright Act of 1909 created the mechanical license—a license to reproduce a composition on a sound recording. That was a way to compensate songwriters back when the recording industry first came into existence. And it has always been on a per song basis. For example, if you wanted to put out a CD or a vinyl disc, you would go to [mechanical rights licensing organization] Harry Fox—most everything is listed there—and you would get a license for that song.
- Lastly, I deem as relatable is copyright infringements. Copyright Infringement could be things such as: downloading movies and music without proper payment use (napster, limewire), recording movies in a theater (bootlegging) a digital way of plagiarism if you will. It’s important to understand copyright laws. I now often question why limewire was even a thing if it was “illegal” should I have been sued for downloading music without getting permission?
Media Bias
Fox News has long been criticized as being very biased and unfairly right-winged dominated in its coverage. Fox seems to give more coverage, to republican and tea party based issues. This appears to be an accurate statement when it comes to the budget, taxation, and federal spending cuts stories that it has ran.
- I was a little taken aback by the measure of investigation to prove Fox network was a contradiction and manipulating.
- Honestly, I watch our local Fox news 29. I must agree with Greenwald, this is hard to remember. I am not big on news, such as CNN, MSNBC, Fox.
- I do feel like over the course of the 10 years social media has expanded majorly. Twitter is probably the biggest news network for this time. Twitter has a great deal of news all around the word. The way we get news is different from 10 years ago.
- What I’ve learned so far has not influence me to want to watch/see/hear the news. In fact, it gives me anxiety because of the things that happen in the world.
- I literally live in a bubble. A part of me thinks I should be watching or listening so that I stay woke on what’s going on in the world, sometimes I just rather not. Things that have expose me a little more to media literate is the fact that I have a twitter account for the com 204.
- I do believe media ownership plays apart of it, however like Greenwald said ““There is a truth, there are facts, and none of them are on Fox.” If Greewald and his team didn’t take measures to investigate, Fox would never be held accountable for their actions. Fox just happen to continue to Astroturf.

Media plays a huge part in the way we communicate in the world today. It’s so demanding, that even some employment opportunities. LinkedIn is actually a social media career platform. I mean that’s what it seems like to me.
• I was not that surprised about how much media I used. I actually already tried to monitor how much time I was consuming rather it was watching television, music, YouTube tutorials, social media, etc. What I was surprised about was the amount of YouTube I watch. I mostly watch hair and skin videos, and church sermons. I was also surprised about ow much I searched the web, or should I say how less I search the web. I guess I didn’t consider Pinterest media usage, until this week when I read the pew research article.
• In terms of social media, I could find my family members, my spouse, and myself apart of those demographics. For my family I would say they would be under a lot if the social media platforms. Especially my nephews they spend a lot of time on Instagram, twitter and snap chat, my younger brother he’s always on twitter, snap chat and Instagram, my mom is sometimes on Facebook, a lot of my friends are back and fourth between Facebook and Instagram. I am however on always on Pinterest, sometimes on Facebook, and snap chat. I do not have Instagram, and I can not grasp the concept of how to work LinkedIn .
• I received really good insight on all sections. However astroturfing and persuasion stuck out to me the most. It reminded me of so many stories and news reports I’ve heard in the past. For example:
Lobbyist Bonner and Associates was caught pretending to be NAACP in effort to derail the American clergy and security Act. The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 was meant to curb greenhouse gas emissions, which apparently didn’t sit too well with opponents of climate change. Rep. Tom Perriello (D-VA) received letters from both the NAACP and the Hispanic non-profit Creciendo Juntos, asking him to vote against the bill for economic reasons. It turned out that the lobbyist firm Bonner & Associates, which has a history of astroturfing and defrauding the government, had fabricated the letters, from the letterhead to the signatures. The very similar looking letters can still be found online. The NAACP released a statement denouncing the stunt as “exploiting the African-American Community to achieve their misdirected goal… to deceive Congress.” B&A, on the other hand, blamed the forgery on a “temporary employee.”

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.
When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
